Information To Know About Cremation Urns

By Tanisha Berg

Storage of cremains requires a cremation urn especially if the cremation involves a human body. Cremains are transported inside an urn to the places they are disposed off or placed to rest. Cremation urns refer to vessels that are made specifically for holding remains of the cremation process. Having some information regarding the various types of urns available on the market is good when making a purchase. This is partly due to the fact that the market is filled with many manufacturing each claiming to produce the best.

Choosing an urn is not a random activity rather is dependent on several factors. Some of the factors that influence the choice of urns include size, color, resting place, cost, material, design, seller, and customizations. The size of the vessel is important because not all cremains are same in size. Big animals produce more ashes compared to small ones.

170 to 350 cubic inches is the size of standard urns while 400 to 500 inches cubed is the one for the large models. There are small urns that can accommodate as little as a teaspoonful of ash while big ones can hold the remains of two grown-ups. For every pound of un-cremated flesh, a cubic inch of volume should be bought.

Urns are very rich in color. Buyers have a variety of colors they can pick from. It is considered respectful and good send off to pick the color that was most liked by the dead. Interior theme should influence the color if the item is to be placed inside the house.

The material of the urn plays a major role too. This choice should be made early enough before one starts shopping. The materials can be biodegradable or non-biodegradable. Major materials include marble, ceramic, bronze, plastic, cardboard, cloth, wood, and glass among many others. People who like conserving the environment prefer going for biodegradable materials. The choice of material can also be made to go hand in hand with interior themes. Materials that can be engraved can hold names and other information about the deceased.

Design is the other essential choice one must make. The hundreds of designs available on the market make it very difficult to choose a design if one is not well informed. Design is made up of aspects such as artistic works and shapes. Shapes vary a lot and may at times be made in the form of certain living and non-living things such as stones, balls, and fruits. The shape can therefore be chosen with respect to the desires of the dead. Personal stuff like photos are placed next to the vessel in most cases.

Once funeral and memorial services are over, the vessel is taken to its final resting place. Resting places can be outdoor or indoor. The material of the urn should therefore depend on whether the resting place is indoor or outdoor. Some people choose resting places to be under the ground or water.

The cost depends on various factors most of which are already mentioned above. However major factors that affect price are material, design, and size. Some companies are also generally more expensive than others.
