To the average American a Swedish female singer is really no big deal. They have heard so many of these talented people in the past that it has become quite common. ABBA introduced every U. S. Citizen to two spectacular women who really know how to belt out a tune. The fantastic people within this group were Bjorn Kristian Ulvaeus, Frida Lyngstad, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Faltskog.
History will always remember these four people as great artists who were able to inspire the world musically. The blonde bombshell of this group was Agnetha Faltskog and she is one lady who knows how to get everyone's attention. She is a native of Sweden and was raised in a very middle class family with no real connections to wealth. Her father was a store manager and her mother was a housewife.
The piano was her favorite musical instrument while growing up and she took the time to play it at church. She decided to start a girl band named "The Cambers" before the age of eleven. Her hometown really enjoyed the concerts that these girls put on during the holidays. She was only fifteen when she decided to leave her school for bigger opportunities.
Singing was in her blood and she took every chance to learn the unique styles of other top performers. There were plenty of recordings by Lesley Gore, Aretha Franklin and the great Connie Francis in her room while she was growing up. She tried her best to style her music like each of these ladies.
The sixties proved to be a great year for Faltskog since she met Bjorn Ulvaeus during that time. They shared a true romance and even got married in 1971. Their passion ended in 1979 but they were able to have two children during this very special time. Their breakup did not have a negative effect within the ABBA group. "Knowing Me, Knowing You" was based upon their split.
One fortunate redhead within this industry is the lovely Frida Lyngstad who was born in a Norwegian hospital in the mid 1940's. Frida grew up in Sweden and still considers herself to be a native of this land. She also is associated with Germany due to her father's bloodline. Synni Lyngstad was her mother who left this planet at the age of twenty-one when she died from an illness.
She is very much like her grandmother since they both enjoyed good music and could sing any tune. The older woman was Frida's mentor and legal guardian after her mother's untimely death. Frida would always tell everyone how great her grandmother was when she did chat shows on television. She found success at thirteen with a local orchestra and finally met her ABBA lover Benny Andersson some years later.
Benny was married to this Swedish female singer for several years before filing for a divorce. The couple was actually together for quite a period of time before marrying. Once ABBA was finished Frida found herself back on stage as a single act. "I Know There's Something Going On" was a big hit song for her in the 80's.
