Choice And Uses Of Salon Aprons

By Carissa Glenn

At home, people wear protective garments while cooking to ensure their clothes stay clean. X-ray technicians require protection in form of lead garments to ensure they are not exposed to radiation. In the same way, barbers and hairstylist will need salon aprons in their day-to-day business. Below are some of the reasons why they may need such.

At the salon, the hair stylist will come into contact with different chemicals. These should be used to make hair finer or smoother and easy to comb. The chemicals are only good for the hair and not the skin or clothes one is wearing. It is thus very important to protect oneself by putting on an apron. They are made in a way that they can be worn over your clothes and straps tied at the back of the neck or around the waist to ensure proper fitting.

Most of these attires are made of water proof materials. For this reason, they ensure the stylists are protected from getting wet anytime they wash the hair of a client. Hair colors may also cause stains on their garments if they are not protected. To avoid this, simply adorn an apron while changing or mixing the colors. One cannot keep changing their outfit once they start working hence it is necessary to keep yourself presentable even as you work.

Apart from ensuring protection from unwanted dirt, these attires have pockets that can be used to carry the working materials. Combs, hairspray and scissors are needed for almost every hair design and thus the stylist ensures that they have them at hand all times. This improves efficiency of the workers, since they do not have to keep looking for the items or borrowing from their colleagues. This also avoids confusion at the work place.

The image of every business plays a key role in attracting and retaining customers. Proper working attires are used to uphold a good image. If designed to include the name and logo of the business, this is more like marketing. Uniform colors also enhance the appearance of the salon. Even if the stylists choose their own designs, let there be some pattern to complement the entire place or company.

To achieve uniformity, the color of the attires should be similar. The design on each should also be the same or closely resembling each other. The material chosen should be one that resists water, chemicals and stains otherwise they would not last long. It is possible to modify aprons to make them more water proof, have more pockets and if necessary, you can attach tool belts.

Comfort while working should also be considered and it affects the material chosen. Cotton and nylon work attires are widely used. Disposable aprons are also available but they are not as effective as the permanent ones. Having to replace them daily may be an added expense to the business.

Modification can also be in form of using adjustable straps that add to the comfort of the hairstylist. Since the workers have different heights, one can simply adjust the straps to suit them. The customers also need an apron to cover them while they are enjoying the service. Salon aprons have diverse uses and are considered essential equipment in the hair styling business.
