Gaining Employment As A Voice Artist

Throughout the entertainment industry, there are variety of different kinds of actors. Whether one chooses to act in feature films, television, on stage, in commercial advertising, animation, or one of the other genres, there is plenty of work to go around. One rather popular choice is to become a voice artist.

Each acting genre is going to have its own set of requirements and skills. The specifications and versatility are especially evident in the area of the vocal arts. These individuals are used in many projects such as video games, animated movies, radio commercials, television shows, computerized systems, and telephone ads just to name a few.

Most people do not realize that vocal acting requires a lot of health maintenance, hard work and preparation. In this field, looks are not important, but the way one sounds is how they make their money. The actor must be careful not to strain their chords, and should be diligent about attending regular training sessions and improving their skills.

Anyone considering entering this field would be advised to first invest in some high quality vocal training. One should choose an instructor that has plenty of experience working with people in this profession. Such classes will help an actor learn how to breathe properly, control speech breaks, and pronounce words and sounds clearly.

Cutting a demo tape that demonstrates the individual's full acting range, is the next logical step. It is recommended that one have this done in a professional studio so that the quality that is high and all technical imperfections are rectified and background noise eliminated. The majority of clients will only accept submissions that are either on a compact disc or in the form of digital media.

The job search typically begins by first deciding on what level and in which area one wishes to work. There are four basic categories in this field, which are Regional, Local, International, and National. Each of these is going to have a different set of challenges, requirements, and benefits.

After picking a main genre and level, the time has come to begin submitting resume's and demo tapes. An important part of the process is applying for every job one has any interest in, and being patient when it comes to rejection or denial. Keep in mind that thousands of people are vying for the same position, which means one must be diligent and persistent in order to get noticed and win those rolls.

Public announcements, video games, television commercials, children's programming, radio ads, animated features, directional guidance systems and much more, offer vocal actors a lot of employment opportunities. In this field, a full range of different sounds are required, from the beautiful to the rough, and even the strange and unusual. It may be to one's advantage to have a high quality demo tape, be persistent when sending out resume's, and diligent in applying for a lot of different roles.
