Women have been central in the development of arts in general and music in particular. Their participation has grown over the years with different roles in each era. The linkage between women and music art is at performance, production as well as inspiration. They have been named on numerous occasions among the best composers and singers in their generation.

Female participation in performing arts places them as a minority in all geographical areas. The support and motivation from institutions and individuals has been vital in developing their talents. This has enabled female artists to overcome eminent challenges as they seek to exploit their talents and make a living out of singing.

The role of female artists in shaping social dialogue has evolved over the years. They have remained crucial in entertainment circles and preferred because of their better understanding of certain themes and contexts. The female voices have pacified crowds, guests and royalties in different eras. The female perspective and context in music presents a unique sound and manner of participation that only them can achieve.

Common themes for female performers include motivation, love and social justice. This is a distinct preserve that makes them better performers. The feminine way of expressing these themes endears the performers to their fans and audience. They have inspired male artists by being their lovers, daughters, parents or relatives. This goes into record as a dimension of influence.

It remains a huge challenge to judge women individually without having to compare them with male artists. This has resulted into a raw deal since this manner of comparison is always biased towards female singers. The low rating women receive takes a heavy toll on their morale and makes them feel like second grade.

This is crucial in helping many of them in different parts of the world to get the much needed exposure that would see them make a break through.

Charity work using musical talent has seen many female singers make a worthy contribution which goes into raising their profile. They have participated in fund raisers and charity campaigns to assist famine stricken groups, those faced by floods and others affected by natural calamities. Using their talents to perform such activities has helped raise their profile.

Female influence in classical music is notable regardless of their minimized prominence. This has been noted over the years and runs in different communities. Their scripts have revealed unique style, taste and approach that are distinctively feminine. Collaborations with male artists have yielded commendable results.

The regard for female composers is slightly lower compared to that of their male counterparts. The gender gap or disparity runs across all fields of art. The era of performance varies with an apparent higher threshold for women. Though this has been a discouragement, it has not stopped women from outsmarting their male counterparts in other areas.

Female composers who are commonly mentioned include Amy Marcy, Clara Schumann, Hildegard of Bingen and Cecile Chaminade. They come from different eras with varied achievements during their years. Their styles differ and so do their themes. This is attributed to the prevailing conditions in each community and era and how it influences art.
