Being In Voice Over Commercials

By Rosella Campbell

In recent, people from all walks of life have found new careers in the virtual world. Positions that range from ad raters to self published authors to web designers have allowed people to explore new careers or expand on skills they already possessed. The internet has also presented opportunities for those who are interested being talent for voice over commercials, audio projects and similar opportunities.

At one time, these jobs were limited to professional actors, those with broadcasting experience and others who may have just been at the right place at the right moment. These days, anyone can take tutorials on how to project their voice to sell a product or idea to a particular market. However, there are a number of places where the right voice may be utilized.

Contrary to popular belief, having a perfect sounding voice is not required to get work. You may have heard commercials where vocals may be little rough or even comical, as this is what may help to sell a product. Having a polished sound does not always reach a targeted audience as sometimes there is a need to hear a regular sounding voice.

Courses can be found both online at offline at a number of educational institutions. These places offer classes at different prices and give various types of instruction and connections to the industry itself. Classes may range from one day seminars to a series of courses that help in landing various jobs. Of course, the latter will cost more but most would consider this an investment in a new career.

Although this may be a popular career choice for many, it is best to give this good thought before spending money and time. People who are curious may want to start with the fundamentals and test their level of ease in handling a microphone and vocals. Those who feel strongly about their ability to captivate an audience may want to take advanced classes that will prepare them for a number of opportunities and help them network.

In many cases, the compensation for this type of work is good and for some, they may enjoy the experience. While veterans reap such benefits as residuals on previous work, getting there with the right contacts can be done. Though some clients may prefer someone with a name or voice that is recognizable, there is always room for the person with something special to add.

Most places of instruction will encourage or even assist their students in puttering together a portfolio to show off to prospects. This is highly recommended in order to get work or be part of a database where employers will look for new talent. This gives them an idea of what a person sounds like before arranging an audition.

Working in show business has its challenges and sometimes it may take time before people actually make a living at it. However, many say that the wait is worth it as they love the art as well as the compensation. Getting information about a career doing voiceovers can change a life for the better.
