The Significance Of An Orange Turban

By Sue Carpenter

People wear turbans for many different reasons, whether it is religious, cultural, or fashion. There are many different colors seen being worn by men and in the Sikh religion one of the more common ones is the orange turban. There is no religious significance to this color and it has more of a cultural reason. The reasons behind to colors of turbans varies greatly between people and there is no mandatory color for Sikhs to wear.

People who are devout to the religion are required to never cut their hair out of respect for God's creation. Because of this they use turbans to keep their uncut hair covered. There is no where in the religion that says that a specific color must be worn therefor the choice is completely up to the discretion of the individual who must wear it.

Many people like to choose the color out of personal preference. They may have a favorite color that they choose to wear everyday, or they can choose several different colors that they alternate from one day to the next. The colors that they choose may have a significant meaning for the individual or it may simply be that they really like the color for no reason at all.

Then there are people who choose to use the color of their turbans as an extension of their outfits. They can coordinate the two every day to match for a more professional look. This is commonly done by people who have to dress a certain way for work reasons. The colors can be changed every day to match the different clothes that are worn.

There may be many other reasons behind the choice of color such as support for a favorite sports team, or coordinating colors with other individuals. The possibilities are endless, however many people choose to stick with one or two of their favorites. There are some people though, who may choose to get creative in their choices and use many different options to best suit them and what they are wearing on any given day.

There are also options for different patterns in the cloths. There is also no rule that says that the cloth has to be a solid color so people can choose to get creative in this aspect as well. Though many people choose to use only one color ever day.

There are a few colors that are more common than most. These colors, including the color orange, have a significant meaning in the culture not the religion. People who come from a more traditional background will be more likely to choose one of these colors. The significance and meaning of these colors vary between each one and they can be chosen by the person wearing them for any number of reasons.

There are several colors that are worn to important events such as weddings and other social gatherings. The color orange is among these colors and in one of the most common colors worn around the world by Sikhs. The significance of the orange turban makes it a very common choice for older men and men of high standing in society.
