Modern Impressionist Artists Developing Their Personal Styles

By Juliette Cruz

One of the most modern art movements today is impressionism as its roots come only from the 19th century. The name of this style comes from the famous painting "Impression" by Claude Monet. Though the beginnings of this style are from France, there are many international modern impressionist artists, each bringing their own unique style.

Lena Kurovska. A Ukrainian artist who took her education from the National Academy of Fine Art and Architecture in Ukraine. Her paintings are influenced by the productions of other modern impressionist artists but she focuses on landscapes and still-lives. Her works have are exhibited in galleries throughout Europe, including Ukraine and the United Kingdom. Presently most of her artwork is contained in private collections.

While studying engineering and business Marcus Krackowizer discovered his real desire as a modern impressionist; a true artist who makes his living from personal art sales, oil paintings on canvas. Presently he is also creating his own innovative technique by painting directly on prints to bring out original brush strokes. He feels that this process works best when the print was originally textured.

Sila Velez found painting with oils to be her true calling. Born in Columbia she found herself in adulthood as an architect living in a foreign county. Living abroad helped her develop her true style life's passion.

Samir Sammoun originated from a small Lebanese mountain village. He left his homeland for Canada at twenty one years old to study telecommunications and engineering. Presently he still finds himself painting the beautiful Mediterranean landscapes of his early years.

Colley Whisson focuses on painting light and its effect on the desired subject or object. As a 3rd generation Australian he didn't start his career as an artist but began a year after working as a picture framer. He has individual exhibitions worldwide and writes for many different magazines and is mostly credited for writing his book 'Creating Impressionist Landscapes'.

Raquel Taraborelli takes her inspiration from nature and flowers, and also from Claude Monet. Like many other modern impressionists she didn't begin her art career as a painter. She studied engineering at university but began painting at the young age of 17.

Patrick Gorman Pettis is an American who grew up in upstate New York. This gave him access to natural colors and nature which were enhanced by short summers and cold winters. Each of his pieces is created using dyes that he makes himself from various substances.

John Shave currently lives in England but spent much of his life in Australia. He was won many awards for his paintings and has been published in the Australian Artist Magazine. His paintings can be described as taking a snippet from time. His works are on display worldwide and he currently teaches at various locations.

Globally there are multiple renowned modern impressionist artists. Usually these artists use relatively thin and small brush strokes with a near precise description of available light but many push those boundaries. As with many other art forms, this is presently changing and evolving with these artists contributing its evolution.
