Many agree that the music choices of today's youth are highly influential. Power metal band, grunge and rap are often considered distasteful amongst many for it is said to have negative influence of the listeners and promote inappropriate behaviors.

The choice of good music is very much subjective and it is dependent on however the listener would perceive towards it. Music speaks off experience and compared to the softer version of music, such as blues and jazz, heavier beats such as rap and metal do seem rather harsh. But this comparison would not justify the truth that music can be a negative thing.

People are expressive in various ways and it's crucial this involvement of expression in music to be considered both, an original outlook as well as tasteful versatility. Youngsters often face an inner battle to decide their self-identity and the music they listen to is a reflection of their stand and believes.

A certain music genre could be grouped as vulgar and unsuitable by a majority opinion. But it is undeniable that certain music has been slammed to be inappropriate especially for youngsters due to typical stereotyping. Setting a negative connotation upon a particular genre would create an illusion over the stark reality of the music.

To shed some light onto why music has a negative influence, we have to first alleviate the misunderstanding lying about regarding music choices. Lyrics and music make a song and the magic comes to life in various ways. Rap is often credited to be vulgar with disparity in meaning and heavy metal on the other hand has long been the mascot for gothic nature and cult fad. These misconceptions happen as the music is judged upon face value and not for what they truly represent.

The public often gaze on the surface without considering the interior. Priority should be given to the ideal message of the music and not the way it sounds. Problems with music video and concert banning stems from these misinterpretations of what the music truly stands for. An individual's choice is his own to make and music is often a lifeline for many, therefore the choice of their lifeline should be done by themselves.
