Universal Pictures recently released a new sci-fi/thriller movie "Skyline" into theaters a couple months ago. I just checked it out. While it was exciting to watch, all the action and "edge of your seat scenes" lead up to no payoff in the end. It was very odd. It stars: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson, and Brittany Daniel.
The movie revolved around six partying males and females who have a really great time at a party during the night. However, the next morning, everything changes when weird lights and noises wake everyone up. They end up realizing this new, freakish light isn't a good thing. As a matter of fact, it controls everyone who looks at it,and takes them away to only God knows where.
The group of friends start to immediately panic, and try to carry out a plan that involved getting in the car,and making a run for it. However they quickly find out that isn't a good idea as the giant alien creatures show up everywhere, and they're not friendly. The group of friends start getting killed until they dwindle down to just two people Jarrod and Elaine.
They end up emerging as the main stars of the flick. However, they aren't victorious stars. They start running around everywhere, fighting off the giant creatures, along with the military forces that have been brought in to help fight the creatures.
This crazy flick featured a ton of thrilling, graphic moments like people getting captured by the creature, heads being separated from bodies,Jarrod fighting really hard to save the woman he loves, lots of guns being fired, and bombs going off.
The movie ended with a very strange conclusion, which revealed what the aliens were doing on their spaceship, but it had absolutely no victorious payoff at all for the two friends who were left. It was a very odd way to end a high, action thriller such as this. When I tried to exit the theater, I heard a lady say, "I want my money back." It definitely was not a typical ending for a thriller movie, and was pretty disappointing for me. However, everything before that was really cool to watch, and it was never boring the entire time. I gave this movie a B-.
