Movies About Fashion!

By Shannon Holland

The world of fashion features in the media across many platforms, including magazines, books, television programs and documentaries. The film industry is one tool which continues to whet fashionistas' appetites across the world.

The highly popular film The Devil Wears Prada, based on the novel written by Lauren Weisberger, is based on the author's experience of working for Anna Wintour, the notorious editor of Vogue magazine. Anne Hathaway plays the film's protagonist and she wears a variety of glamorous, fashionable outfits. The film also delves into the dark side of the fashion world, which is perhaps why it is one of the most popular fashion films ever made. Miranda, who Anna Wintour is modelled on, is played by Meryl Streep, and it is her characterisation which highlights just how competitive and cynical the world of fashion can be. The Devil Wears Prada had the most expensive wardrobe on record.

Another popular film focused on fashion is Sex and the City. The four main characters, Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha, were famous for introducing the world to Jimmy Choo shoes, alongside other designer labels. The series and the film features the characters wearing some diverse fashion items, which continue to be copied and remade by fans across the globe.

Coco avant Chanel is based upon the world of Coco before Chanel became the multi-million pound, award-winning fashion label that it is today. The film was originally released in France in 2009 and it has been translated into English, and it is now one of the most popular fashion films that has been made. Coco avant Chanel's director Anna Fontaine has been praised for her raw, gritty portrayal of Coco.

Sex and the City, Coco avant Chanel and The Devil Wears Prada have all been award-winning, successful films which have taken the world by storm with their portrayal of the fashion world. Each of the films mentioned are unique in the way they present the world of fashion, each highlighting the highs and the lows, the good and the bad.
