How To Make Large Scale Abstract Landscape Drawing

By Kevin Brooks

Different people have different interests as well hobbies. Painting is among the activities that can occupy someone in a good way and make him/her exist in her world for several hours. Different artists have different painting styles including the large scale abstract landscape drawing. This kind of art involves a series of steps for one to come up with the final exquisite piece. For beginners, training is essential before beginning to paint. More so, the experience is the most important in this field because the more you get experience, the more you will be able to paint layouts that are magnificent, unique and breathe taking.

There are a series of steps that should be followed when this kind of painting is carried out. Before beginning the activity, it is advisable to have scenery that you are interested in then work out this scenery with photos, sketches and studies before starting the main painting. This is simply because some mistakes in small sketches can be overlooked, but small mistakes in bigger paintings cannot be ignored.

Then, one must know what he/she wants to say about the layout then divide the canvas into simplified sections according to the kind of painting that he intends to do. Then, use dark abstruse shapes to paint the masses with four value planes that are basic.

Ensure that the source of light which is the sky is the lightest. Then, the ground plane which reflects the sky becomes the second lightest. The slanted planes that include slanted rocks, hills and mountains among others get less light while the upright planes like trees and buildings get the lowest amount of light that falls directly on them.

You should then start defining your features using right shading amounts. For example, trees usually have rich dark green color at their bottoms and made lighter at the tips. When you are mixing the colors, you can try adding all the colors you intend to use on your palette to paint harmoniously and more easily.

The type of portrait you are working on will require different finishing procedures. In this kind of layout, the portrait is scrubbed using palette knives then it is deconstructed frequently. This tends to make the edges of the portrait to be hard, and the sketch becomes softer and simple. Bigger brushes should be used so that the portrait does not get poked.

Then, start working the colors on the whole portrait to make it look more defined. At this level, you should try to make the portrait look opaque as you concentrate on the values. The application of the paint is thickened and scrapped off to soften its edges. More paint is then added to the areas that have been scrapped.

At the final stages, you should use the smaller flat brushes as well as palette knives so that you add on the details. After refining the images, intensifying focal points as well as pushing the portrait thickness, hard edges, contrast and value, you should let it dry. After it has completely dried, start glazing and sand it to make it more exquisite.
