Trying To Understand Alabama Abstract Artists

By Mary Clark

Anyone who has gone to a museum has probably seen someone who is subjected to abstraction but clearly has no comprehension or interest in the piece. There are many people who have been in that very situation where they simply do not understand something that the institutions and individuals around them profess to be art. Sometimes people just don't like theoretic art, but for those who are curious and want to know more or have already been devoted to the art form for many years, there are plenty of Alabama abstract artists out there.

What makes this type of art so special to so many people is the broad interpretations that can be drawn from them. It takes a lot of artistic intuition not only to create these types of pieces but also to appreciate them as well. This is something that makes the art form hard to get into for a lot of people, but at the same time is what draws so many fans. People also call this art form nonobjective art.

A lot of art pieces that are created in this genre are some of the most innovative and creative things that come out of the art world. The reason for this is that since abstraction is so broad and boundless by definition, it allows the artist to be free and as creative as possible. Most commonly, nonrepresentational art comes in the form of paintings or sculptures.

The subject of a piece of art that uses abstraction can seem more difficult than determining the subject of a sculpture or painting that is more straightforward, but it does not have to be as daunting as it might seem. By simply recognizing and breaking down the different parts of the piece, it can be more easily understood. This is very helpful for people who are less familiar with the genre.

It is generally considered easier to understand and connect with an ordinary painting or other art pieces when there are conventional images displayed. However, one of the reasons why abstraction is so powerful is because it broadens the possible interpretations of the piece. This makes it so the observer can only draw associations from the piece that are artistic.

The aspects that make up the subject of a piece of artwork like this can include things like the types of brushstrokes that are used, the size of the piece, the scale of the images portrayed, the shapes that are represented, and the colors that are used. These in and of themselves encompass a broad range of techniques. Outside of these, an artist can be as creative as possible.

Since there are no recognizable images or objects in these pieces, it may seem like there is not much that the subject can be about. The opposite is actually true because abstraction removes all earthly boundaries. It takes a different way of thinking and some artistic intuition, but it is a very freeing art form.

A famous painter in this genre was Jackson Pollock, and he helped popularize action painting. The performance art is still popular today. It involves splashing paint in many different ways on the canvas while an audience watches.
