By Karen Campbell

Humor plays a crucial role in interpersonal communications. It is also manifested through creative and nonfiction writing. Develop a writing pattern of pairing up two sentences with similar meanings. Link these two words with another sentence of different meaning. This method aims at incorporating humor in writing. It can be used in developing catchy opening phrases when writing. The readers must be familiar with the chosen sentences. Draw inspiration from current affairs when adopting this method.

Use comparison jokes in your articles. As a writer, choose metaphors that create humor and challenge the readers. For example, if you want to emancipate people in a funny way on how quitting drugs is difficult, you need to mentally list ideas that are hard. Then, select a comparison that can make you laugh. In humorous writing, as writers, we are our first audience.

Comedy is largely based on exaggeration as well as misdirection. One of the effective ways of misdirecting readers is using common words and ending them with unpredicted clauses. Avoid limiting yourself to overused and old idioms. Readers are usually drawn by content that creates suspense. Review humorous articles written by other writers to assess their use of humor and metaphors.

Most jokes are usually centered on present day occurrences. Furthermore, psychological studies have proven that such jokes are funnier when compared to those centered on old fashioned topics. Your jokes should be applicable to readers irrespective of race, gender and religion. For language appropriate reasons, utilize censored language in your articles.

Good writers are strategic when crafting funny stories to appeal readers. Being strategic in this context involves integrating jokes with anecdotes, cartoons, titles and sidebars found on your blog. You should however use these jokes sparingly to avoid being monotonous and out of topic. This is because the main purpose of writing funny stories is for your readers to categorize you as an established writer and not a comedian.

Your articles must have a primary focus. Based on the subject matter of the article, most writers find themselves going out of topic whenever they use humor. Furthermore, other writers choose topics that have been over discussed hence repeating what their colleagues wrote in the past. Your writing capabilities are based on how you can avoid such mistakes. Furthermore, the more you post quality content on your blog, the more you amass multiple readers. One way of identifying the grammar mistakes in an article is by sharing it with a colleague.

Writers have freedom to express their creativity through writing. They are however limited to using hurtful humor and sarcasm. As a nonfiction writer, seek feedback about your work from the readers. Try acknowledging them on how they motivate you to write more. At times, you may receive negative comments and reviews. These feedback can assist you in creating content that suits the demands if diverse readers.
