By Lelia Hall

It is surely not easy to become a teacher. This is especially true if you are try to teach people how to play specific music instruments. Your patience will be tested. It is also expected of you to be prepared to teach students no matter what age bracket they belong to. If you are instructing piano lessons, you need to be able to accommodate them.

If you wish to succeed in this teaching field, then you better make use of some tips relevant to what you are about to do. There should be many tips you can note for that. Here are a few of those tips you should remember in teaching students to play the music instrument.

First, you should never ask questions when you never really wanted answers to them. For example, you should stop yourself from asking questions such as whether the students liked something or if they want to play on their own. Instead of phrasing it in question form, you can turn these sentences into statement to motivate the students to play.

The students should have the time to think when you are asking some questions. You should give them a reasonable amount of time to process your question and compose their response. Do not just bulldoze your way to the end of the lesson by answering these question you yourself asked. Especially if your students are young children, give them enough time to think.

Since you are teaching, you will be giving the tasks and activities. When you do give the students tasks and activities, make sure that these are something that the students can succeed at perfectly. It is actually more effective to teach the students when you give them a series of successive challenges with gradually increasing difficulties.

Giving them instructions is also a part of the teacher's job. When you give instructions to the students, it will be better to use concise instructions. It makes it easier for the students to listen and follow through with your instructions. The students will be able to go through when there are only a few choice words to go by at a time.

You have to become a motivator. As a teacher, the main job that you have to do is to motivate them to love music. You do not just give the students the opportunity to learn various concepts in music. You also have to motivate them to learn about it. Becoming a motivator is one of the main goals you need to set for yourself.

The students should not always be sitting when instructing them. Try to break up these sitting activities and encourage them to move around. It should be easier to retain their concentration if you allow them to move. You cannot expect students, especially young children, to stay focused for the entire session if they just sit all the time.

Model curiosity. You should try to give off an experimenting feel to the students. You can encourage curiosity this way. The students will usually feel more excited when you tease their curiosity or when you make tasks sound exciting. Through this, you can capture their attention and even nurture their love for learning.
