The Procedure Of Glass Carving Alberta

By Angela Briggs

One of the most artistic techniques that is used for creative image design and inscription of symbols is glass carving. It has been in use for centuries. One particular technique used with it is sand-carving that was first utilized in the late 19th century. It was, and is still being used for creating multilevel abrasive etchings. Once the required designs have been etched into the glasses, light and shadow details are added. In consideration of glass carving Alberta offers one of the best options.

For people that are looking to carve glasses, there are 3 main components that they will require. These are an acid based cream for etching, foam brush and stencils. The first step is to place the pieces to be used on a flat surface after which they are sprayed with a cleaner. It is very essential that the cream used for etching adheres properly to the surface. This explains why the surfaces used have to be not only clean but also dry.

After being cleaned, the surface is wiped with soft cloth so that it dries up before one continues. One has to choose the design that should be carved. Most experts in art and craft recommend stencil since it has an already existing design. There are stencils that come with adhesive backing to make them adhere completely to the piece. The back is pulled off the stencil as it is held down firmly for some seconds.

As a safety measure, one should put on goggles and latex gloves. There are fumes produced from the cream that are strong and have different effects on people. For people that have sensitive eyes, putting on goggles is advisable; otherwise there are chances that they will be adversely affected. Allergy to latex requires one to use vinyl or rubber gloves.

What follows is application of masking tape at the stencil edges. This is generally done at the sections where the stencil meets glass. The masking tape helps to protect areas where carving is not needed. Such areas would ruin the design if they came into contact with the cream. The cream is applied onto the form brush, which is then used for evening out the application. The best way to ensure cream covers every section is to monitor the edges and corners closely.

There is removal of the cream from the glass after every 10-20 minutes that have passed for every direction it came with. Excess creams are wiped out using paper towels and the hands properly washed prior to taking off the gloves. Proper hand washing ensures no traces of the chemicals are left.

There are many persons that have appreciation for carved glass. Most of the carvings can be seen in shops selling gifts and in fancy windows. There are not so many people that deal in these carvings, which is why it is a business that has potential to be highly profitable.

For those that are looking to take up glass carving Alberta offers one of the best environments. Starting the business would need 3 main things, namely, resists, a blast cabinet and a studio that is well lit. The right marketing strategies will ensure the business picks up fast.
