By Casandra Cotton

There is more to the 27th state than palm trees, sandy beaches and Disney World, though these are things that make it famous. For a lot of very talented female singers Florida is their home town and is where they got their start is show business. There are women singing a variety of musical styles including Pop, Rock, Jazz and R&B and other genres here who sing and perform at a variety of places including local fairs, night clubs, events and perform in the studio.

Mandy Moore is a native to the state and grew-up in the city of Longwood, which is just outside of beautiful Orlando. Moore released her first album in 1999 which was quite popular with the teen crowd, but received mixed reviews from critics. She has gone on to star in several films and has released more songs that have become pop favorites and she has grown in popularity.

Nickelodeon's teen star Victoria Justice was born in Hollywood, FL in 1993, but got her break when her family moved to Hollywood, California. Her acting career started at the age of ten when she debuted in the network's show Zoey 101 and has since gone on to appear in other shows and currently has her own series. Her musical career has taken off as she now has her own album, has performed on several compilation projects and regularly performs on her show, "Victorious."

Justice's show also stars the adorable Ariana Grande who plays the part of Cat Valentine, the dizzy and lovable friend of "Tori" Justice's character. Grande is from the city of Boca Raton and has performed and sung on Broadway and has starred in her very own video, "Put Your Hearts Up". She has been in videos by Justice and other musicians too and has had appearances in various other TV shows.

Gloria Estefan, a Miami native, is one of the best selling musicians the world has seen and is the recipient of three Grammy awards and countless other recognitions. Estefan and her band, The Miami Sound Machine, started their recording career in the 1970s. They rocketed to fame in the 1980s with such hits as "Congo" and "Rhythm is Gonna Get You" which are popular tunes today.

Velia Martinez was a Tampa native who was born in the 1920s and went onto be more than a nightclub talent, but sang and acted. She spent a lot of time in Cuba with her husband where she did live theater. She was in the movie, "The Big Boodie" with Errol Flynn.

There is a lot of talent that is still undiscovered in this state and many of them perform at local venues like clubs and fairs. They also hire out to perform at events like wedding or other private places. There are session singers too, like Linda MacLean who sings Jazz and man other performers.

For female singers Florida is not only a good place to be from, but a place to be. Stars like Gloria Estefan and others like Mandy Moore come from here. This state is the current home to some great session musicians and singers and to people who currently perform at local events.
