Biography of Hindi Film Actress Saira Banu

The films done by Saira Banu, in 2 decades of her of career, from the 1960s to 1980s, entertained people. She is daughter to Naseem Banu, famous film star in the 1930-40 period. Wonderful acting ability and charming self are her trademarks. She is a spontaneous actress and performs her roles with panache of her own. She has many different films and distinct characters to her credit. Career in Films.

At the age of seventeen she entered the film industry with the film Junglee (1961) with Shammy Kapoor and the film was popular for the song Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe. She appeared in Gopi, Sagina, Shagird, Deewana and Duniya, some important films in the list of almost 40 movies she has completed. She became the nominee for best actress in Filmfare awards for the movies Shagird, Sagina and Deewana. While a few of the films failed commercially, her acting could create an impact on people. Through her films, she tried to be versatile. Chaitali with a socially inclined theme, Shagird with a comedy subject and Bairaag with a touching storyline are the different kinds of movies she chose in her career. She acted mostly with renowned actor Dilip Kumar.

Evergreen Movies.

The movie Padosan with Mehmood, Sunil Dutt and Kishore Kumar is regarded as a well known movie of hers. This comedy movie is about lead actor trying to attract the lead actress by lying that he is a singer. This film, which has a few evergreen songs in it, was successful at the box office. Ek Chatur Naar, Mere Saamnewaali Khidki Mein and Main Chali Main Chali were some of the famous song tracks in it.

Saira Banu also performed in movies like Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Aman, Bluffmater, Aayi Milan Ki Bela and April Fool. She got opportunities to work with many of the well known names of Bollywood, Dharmendra, Rajendra Kumar, Joy Mukherji and Biswajeet. The acting of Saira Banu and Rajendra Kumar was well-accepted by the masses. Aayi Milan Ki Bela, starring both of them, was a huge success commercially. Aha Aye Milan Ki Bela Dekho, Tum Khamseen Ho, Tu Bura Maan Gaye, Mai Pyar Ka Diwana and O Sanam Tere Ho Gaye were some songs in the film.

Personal Life.

Saira Banu got married to Dilip Kumar in 1976 when she was 22 and decided to quit acting to concentrate on family life. But she gave guest appearances in Duniya (1984) and Faisla , released in 1984. She was feted with the Lifetime Achievement Award in International Film Festival at Pune in January 2011.
