Fashion Designers : The Five Most Popular Of 2011

By Tony Henry

Fashion is something that impacts on all our lives, but very few people actually know that much about the top designers who influence the trends that we follow. This is why we've put together this guide to look at some of the most famous fashion designers of 2011 and their key achievements. One really popular designer right now is Issa. Based in London, Camilla al Fayed has just bought a controlling stake in this designer, who is increasingly popular thanks to her royal fan, the Duchess of Cambridge.

Now we come to another 'Royal connection' and Alexander McQueen. He may have sadly passed away in 2010 but the designer's fashion house is still going strong, with Sarah Burton - the creative director of Alexander McQueen - designing Kate Middleton's wedding dress in 2011. That move catapulted an already popular designer into the limelight. Alexander McQueen is known for memorable prints and patterns as well as statement pieces that get heads turning. The designs also feature a blend of modernity and classic style for a timeless look.

In 2011, Donatella Versace is also more popular than ever. The house of Versace is never that far away from the limelight and the brand has long been one of the most recognizable in the world. Their current collection includes some sensational evening wear. It also involves lovely clean tailoring and bright summery colors. Also, Donatella Versace has recently been announced as designing clothes for high street label H&M, making the brand more relevant than ever and those clothes are sure to sell out fast.

Now we come to relatively new Australian designer called Dion Lee, who is set to be massive throughout 2011. He's said to be one of the best designers to come out of Australia for ages, and at the age of just 24 it seems safe to say he has plenty of time to continue developing his style - and he's almost certainly set to go on to do even more great things. His recent shows have been causing something of a stir so we should hear much more from him soon.

Lastly we come to a designer called Emilio de la Morena. He describes the type of woman who wears his clothes to be 'strong and modern', and that's certainly something that comes across in his designs. The designer is originally from Spain but works a lot in London. His Spanish background comes through in his designs, which are often quite ornate and have the effect of appearing to be moving sculptures - this is definitely a designer to watch in the coming months and years.
