New York City: Fantastic Food & Spectacular Live Music

By Maxwell Joshua Edison

New York City is a great city to visit for a great many reasons. But I think my favorite two reasons have to be the wide variety of wonderful restaurants and the live music.

If you are like many people and you live in a place where the only restaurants to eat out at are chain restaurants like TGIF's then you may not have ever actually had truly excellent food in your life. Sure you have had stuff that you may have thought were good because you didn't know better. But when you eat out in NYC you will get an excellent education on how good food can really be.

When visiting New York I recommend getting a New York Pass because it includes some money saving discounts for many different tourist activities with the best of all being the food tours! On these tours you can taste selections from six or seven restaurants in one go. It's a fantastic way to get a taste for the spectacular variety of New York City restaurants.

As far as live music is concerned there are basically no popular artists that don't make a stop in New York. Everyone plays here when touring the US. Even if one of your favorite bands or artists is not playing a show during your visit you are sure to find lots of great live music in every night of the year.

If if you like jazz music then you're really in luck because NYC has plenty of live jazz to hear every night. And of course NYC is also the birthplace of rap so you are very likely to find some great underground rap if you take the time to look for it.

Among the venues you should check out of are MSG (also home to the NBA's Knicks and the NHL's Rangers of course), the Bowery Ballroom, Sullivan Hall, Cafe Wha, the Beacon Theater, Irving Plaza, the Roseland Ballroom, the Appolo Theater, Coco66, Radio City Music Hall and the Iridium Jazz Club.
