Five Simple Guitar Songs You Can Play Acoustically

By Jeff Yuan

When you learn to play the acoustic guitar, it's not only fun but also really enjoyable for your audience. Many don't know that many of their favorite songs are only using a few chords, but still sound great. Actually, many popular songs are easy to learn when you examine their basic structure. To prove that to you, here are five easy guitar songs that you can try.

1. For What It's Worth Buffalo Springfield made this number a hit in 1967. The majority of this song uses A and E chords, then the chorus employs both C and D as well. As you may already know, there isn't much complication to the song, and you should be able to come across easy directions regarding how to strum when singing the verses.

2. Knockin' on Heaven's Door It may seem incredible at first blush, but this Bob Dylan (no, it wasn't Guns 'n Roses!) song is truly painless to play. You can get good YouTube's on how to play this one, and when to play the chords and even covering how long you are going to hold every note.

3. Redemption Another one on this list of acoustic easy guitar songs is Bob Marley's work of art, "Redemption." This is a little bit more complicated to play because it uses more chords than the foregoing two songs, but are still within the easy chord range and should be learned from that point of view. This song utilizes Am, Em, G, D in addition to C chords. It can appear more complex, but it is a good quality beginner's doorway to guitar.

4. Wish You Were Here Pink Floyd is responsible for making, "Wish You Were Here" well-known back in their time. You'll notice, again, a variety of chords used in this piece, but because they are spread out a bit, you will have time to get your fingers in position. This song uses chords: A, Am, D, G, Em and C. This again is a very classic (modern) song, easy to play and with notable results when you want to show your loved ones and friends that you're studying guitar.

5. Time of Your Life The fifth of the easy guitar songs that you can play acoustically is called Time of Your Life, made popular by the famous alternative band Green Day. This song is rather repetitive, you'll find. Because of that, it is simple to play (you even play a note 9 times over at one point). It might sound basic, but it's a piece of art. This piece will play G, D, C and Em chords.
